Disciplinary Complaint Investigations – 2:00 – 3:10
Presented by: Ruth Graham, Derenda Mitchell and Scott Hesse
We will hear from three attorneys who volunteer as investigators for local and statewide ethics and grievance committees. They will describe the steps involved once they receive an assignment, some of their more memorable investigations and tips for advising your client or responding to your own inquiry. Ruth will discuss evidentiary issues related to investigations from the perspective of a member of the Kansas Supreme Court’s Board for Discipline of Attorneys.

More than two dozen decisions on attorney misconduct have been filed since July 1, 2007. We will examine the types of conduct and representation that seem to be causing the most problems and will discuss the range of sanctions the Court has imposed this year.
