Read to Me Program
The “Read-To-Me” Program was created in 2000, as the result of the vision of Past President Teresa (Sittenauer) Watson. The initial response to the program was overwhelming and it has continued to be a huge success each year as a result of the generosity of WAAT members. The Read-To-Me program is aimed at encouraging young, disadvantaged mothers to read to their children. The impact of reading to children is profound. Reading not only enhances a child’s development, but it also fosters quality time between the parent and child.
This year’s Read-To-Me program will take place at the WAAT general membership meeting on September 26, 2007 at the YWCA from noon to 1:00 p.m. WAAT members are encouraged to donate a new children’s book appropriate for ages zero to five years old. WAAT will be donating children’s t-shirts and book marks. The books, t-shirts and book marks will all be donated to the Grace Parent-Child Learning Center at Grace Episcopal Cathedral, which serves teenage mothers. Thank you in advance for helping to make the program a huge success!
