Read to Me Program

This year's Read-To-Me event was a great success!  Thanks to Jennifer Hays for all her hard work.  Details are included in the following link:  http://www.wibw.com/home/headlines/First_Lady_Emphasizes_Importance_Of_Reading_130727443.html

The “Read-To-Me” Program was created in 2000, as the result of the vision of Past President Teresa (Sittenauer) Watson.  The initial response to the program was overwhelming and it has continued to be a huge success each year as a result of the generosity of WAAT members.  The Read-To-Me program is aimed at encouraging young, disadvantaged mothers to read to their children.  The impact of reading to children is profound.  Reading not only enhances a child’s development, but it also fosters quality time between the parent and child.

This year’s Read-To-Me program will take place at the WAAT general membership meeting on September 28, 2011.  Our featured speaker will be Kansas First Lady Mary Brownback.  WAAT members are encouraged to donate new or gently used children’s board books appropriate for ages zero to two years old.  The books will all be donated to the Grace Parent-Child Learning Center at Grace Episcopal Cathedral, which serves teenage mothers.  If you prefer to donate cash instead, please contact Jennifer Hays at jennifer@valentine-law.com.  Thank you in advance for helping to make the program a huge success!
